My First Cultural and Celebration in Widya Mandala

Last Friday, I joined International Culture Festival and Celebration in my campus. This event was presented by EDSA. They invited guest from institude of several country, like France,Belarus, Poland, Spain, China, and our beloved country, Indonesia. Each contry did a presentation about their country. Beside that, they also invited high school students from IPIM, SMAN 11, Citra Berkat, Stella Maris, St Luis 2, and Gloria 1 as our guest. I also appreciate our lecturers and the committee, they wore the traditional dress from saveral districts in Indonesia like "Kebaya" and so on.

     The event is opened by dance performance from English Department students and I though it was amazing, they dance gracefully with red elegant dress. After that there was an opening speech from our lovely rector, Mr. Koencoro Fu. I was little bit surprise because he could come to our campus. He told us to appreciate our own culture but beside that we have to appreciate other culture too. The next event was opening speech from Mam Retno as a head from English Department and Mr. Hadi as a head of the committee.

Presentation From HAKA community

After the opening speech, we continued our event with presentation from each country. I wont tell you about the all the events because I think it will be a very long story. I will only tell you about the presentation and performance that impressed me. The first presentation was from HAKA community in Surabaya named Hwie Tiauw Ka community. From that presentation, I learn a lot about Chinese people. Therefore I’m Chinese, I didn’t know a lot about Chinese people. Many chinese now days don’t know how to speak Chinese language moreover write the Chinese letters, like me. I even didn’t have a chinese name. But HAKA people keep maintaining their culture, many of them speak chinese fluently. They taught us how to make a lampion from “Ang Pao” and how to make a calligraphy in their stand.

Salsa Permormance from Salsa Commuity

The next one is a performance from Spain. They invited a dancer from Salsa Community. The dancer taught us how to dance basic salsa. I was so impressesd by the Salsa dance because I have seen many great salsa dancer in Bali and I had an opportunity to learn a little bit salsa dance last year. They told us to come infront to dance salsa and you know that time I was forget about my shyness and came to the stage. The music began and all the people in the stage began to dance. The first song was “Baliando” by Enrique Iglesias. And I also saw Mr. Hadi came to stage and danced salsa. It was so fun because I never seen he danced salsa before.

Overall this event was fun and entertain me. Nevertheless I couldn’t tell the all event, I really enjoyed the event. And the most important things is from that event I got many new knowledge about language, culture, etc. I also practiced my listening skill because the MC as well as several presentator speak English. I think EDSA should held this event again next year.  

It is just a little story from the event. During the presentation, I saw two high school students was studying. They opened their book and began to solve math in their book. And that time I taugh, how diligent they are. or they just got bored with the event? I don't know. But I keep wondered, they should be studious students!   

Mermaid As A Zodiac

Mermaid is a legendary half human, half marine creature. It has a human body in the upperbody and a tail of fish. Mermaid usually finds in the folklore or myth of many cultures worldwide. Mermaid usually describes as a beautiful girl that has a fish tail and it lives in ocean. Mermaid likes to tempt imprudent sailors with their charm and their beautiful voice. But after that it will make the sailor drowed in the ocean.

There are many zodiac we know, like Pisces, Aquarius and so on. But how if Mermaid be the one of the zodiac? I think it will be fun and interesting. People with this sign will be charismatic, charming and enchanting like mermaid. They love to be the centre of attention and very perfectionis. They like to attract people so people want to know them more and have a charm so many people want to be their friends. Otherwise they can be shy and mysterious too like mermaid’s characters.

But you must be careful with people who have mermaid as their sign, they have many tactics and they are sly. They are ambitious and will do everything possible to achive their goals. If they join a competition,they will work hard and do anything to win, although they have to win in unfair way.

My Second Journal

                In this journal I want to tell you about my experience about write a autobiography.  Our lecturer told us to make a autobiography. I have learned about it when I was in Senior High School but I have never done it in English. It challenged me and I was so excited to writing about my self.

First, we have to made a story about our self include physical appearance and personality. I didn’t know what should I write there, so it took few days to finished it. Then I gave it to my lecturer and got many red marks on my write. From that revision, I learned about the important of panctual in writing and got new vocabulary. The next assigment was made story about family and friends. It was easy to write about my family, but again I got stucked when wrote about my friends. So it was ended up with long story about my family and a very short story about my friends. What I have learned about this assigment is I have to put an attention for my grammar especially in past tenses and the storyline. Last, we have to write about an important event in my life. It was the most difficult assigment for me. I had a very usual life. There is no very important event that can make me change a lot. I was confused about the story so I can’t organize my story well. But after I got a revision from my lecturer and read other story of my friends I learned about how to make a good story And it is also important to give a line spacing so my story can be easily read by others.
 

I have been in writing class for around 1 and half month, I think my writing skill is improve a little. My lecturer always gives me feed back so I can identified my faults. But still, I have to pay more attention in my grammar and use more difficult vocabulary to make a good sentences. And I have to pay attention in arrange my storyline so I can make a good story so my story will be easy to read by others. And as I told you before I feel unconfident if my story read by other people so I think I have to be more confident from now becase nobody is perfect. People sometimes makes fault. So I don’t have to afraid to make a mistake.

     My writing class give me benefit to me, I can use what I have learned in other context. It helps me doing my reading task. In my reading class we have told to make a summary about news and make a reflexion about it. So it was easy to me to made a summary since I have taught about how to make a good sentences and make a good story line in writing class. It also help me when I do my structure test. I have to make a story in a good grammar so it make me more understant about the grammar and how to use it.

     It is almost midterm test and it makes me very nervous. I have to study hard if I want get good score. I think I have to read more article in English so my get more vocabulary and also more understand about grammar. I hope I will get a good score so I can make my self proud and all of my effort not useless.

An Important Moment In My Life

 
     I was born in Bali at 19th March 1997, on St. Joseph's day. Thats why my first name is Yosepha. I spent my childhood in Flores and had a happy normal childhood. When I was 10 years old my dad taught me how to play badminton. We had a badminton court behind our house. So in his spare time my father would tell me to learn play badminton together. One year later, he hired a coach to train me and my brother. I have trained for 2 years when I joined a badminton competition in Kupang, capital city of NTT. The competition name is  "O2SN 2010". I won the second place, it made me so happy and proud because I though I would never won a competition. After joined the competition, I didn't stop the training until I moved to Surabaya.
     I had a little dilema when I was in 9th grade. I was confused about where I should continue my study, to Surabaya or in Flores. After months I being stucked in my dilema, I decided to study in Surabaya. But, I was afraid how if I couldn't understand the lesson and got a bad score. So I studied hard and I got a very good score for my national exam score. It made confident to study in Surabaya.
     I graduated from Senior High School in 2015, and my father keep told me to take english as my major. I didn't want to be a teacher because I wanted to take tourism in Petra. But, as I said before my father is a strict person. I have to obey his will. So, I decided to continue my study in Widya Mandala University and I take English as my major as m. At first, I didn't like my decision. I thought my life will be more difficult, but until now I still have no difficulty beside the number of assigments. But as the time flies, I know that my father was right. I have so many friends and good lecturers that make me comfortable to study. Being a collage student is not easy as many people said. I have to study independently and be more responsible.
   I have passed many events to be my self now. There was joyful or sadness moments but I believe that all happened because of God's plans and always be grateful of that.

My Second Family

   I have best friends in my senior high school, we made a group name "Call Us Freedom" in Line. It because at that time we just passed our national exam or UNAS. Our group consist of ten people, five girls and five boys. We have had many unforgettable moments. We always watch film together at cinema and after that hang out together. It happens until now even some of them can't go with us because we study in different university.
   One month ago, after had watched a film in cinema as usual we hung out together. Suddenly one of my friends asked us about go vacation together. I was surprise that all of them agree to go vacation together. And then we choosed Bali as our destination. My male friends said they want to see female tourists to refresh their eyes. We have looked for plane tickets, hotel, accomodation, and tourist destinations. I hope God will bless our plan so we can go in June.

   

My Family

     Hello readers, today I want to tell you about my family. Most of my family live in Ruteng, the small city at foot of a high mountain range in Manggarai, Flores.

      My father and my mother have an unique love story, they are cousins. Surprisingly  they fell in love and got married in September 1987.  My father is a business man and my mother is a house wife. My father is tall and has a athletic body. His hobbies are playing badminton and taking care of chickens, dove, and dogs. He is a badminton athlete and has won many badminton competitions in my hometown. But my father is a very distinct person. He always tells us to do something and we can’t resist his will. My father also is a talkactive person. He usually spents 2-3 hour just to talk to someone until my mother stops him.

My mom

   My mother is a good housewife who loves to sleep. My Mom is short, about 155cm and slim. She is beautiful and looks very young eventhough she already 50 years old. She is fashionable and she loves to shopping. However, my mom is a multitalented person. She has a beautiful voice, but this talent isn’t bequeathed to her children. My sibling and I have no talent in singing. She is a good guitar and a piano player, and also a good badminton player.Many people said that we are badminton family.

My sister

     I’m the third child in my family. I have one big sister and one big brother. My sister’s name is Karina. She is the first child in my family. She is independent  and always give us advice. Sometimes I gets annoyed about it, but I know that is for my own sake. My sister got married 2 years ago and have had 1 daughter. Her daughter, my niece, is so cute. She is slanted eyes and has a chubby body. She like to sleep and it is difficult if we want to wake her up. And my brother, just like other brother, he is so nosy to me. He always disturbs me whether I’m studying, watching movie, eating, and even when I’m sleeping. But eventhough he is nosy, he always cares about me. 
     Maybe my family isn't perfect. We fight, we argue, or get annoyed each other. Even stop talking to each other at times.  But in the end, family is family and I always be grateful to have them as my family. 

It's About Me

     My name is Tyta and I was born in Bali, 19th March 1997. I'm from Flores and I have lived in Surabaya for 4 years.

When I was in Senior High School

     I have white skin, because my parents are Chinese. I have an oval face with black slit eyes and small nose like many chinese have. I have long straight hair. It was black, but since I dyed it last year it become brown. I'm quite short, my height  are 158 cm and I think its because my mom's genes are more dominant than my father. But I have a chubby body, the genes from my father.

     I used to wear glasses when I was in Junior High School because I am farsighted. But since I was in Senior High School, I started to wear softlense. It can give color on my eyes and  makes it more bigger. I like to wear a blouse and trousers or jeans if I go to campus. On the other side, if I hang out with my friends or family I like to wear T-shirt and shorts.
     How about my personality? I'm a trustworthy person, but I can't trust peole easily and just tell my secret to person I trust. I always put an effort for my work and I work hard to reach my goal. I will very dissapointed if I fail. I also an easy going person. I don't like to get in troble with people because I know I'm the one that would apologize first even thought that wasn't my fault.
